Nata nel 1985 tra boschi, fiumi e torbiere, Ester Manzini tenta di dedicarsi agli studi classici al liceo. I risultati discutibili la portano ad assecondare la grande passione per tutto ciò che è vivo. Si laurea in Biologia nel 2010, e nel 2014 consegue un PhD in Ecologia. Poi la vita prende una strada piena di deviazioni bizzarre: dopo un’esperienza tra foche e balene su un’isola deserta in Messico lavora come giornalista scientifica, copywriter e - cosa che continua a fare con entusiasmo - traduttrice e sceneggiatrice di videogiochi. Ha ceduto alla sua insolita ossessione per i funghi e ha inseguito il sogno di diventare micologa. Perché ehi, i funghi sono una figata.
Vive al margine del bosco con umani adorabili, gatti a vari livelli di possessione demoniaca e cani troppo carini per il loro bene.
Nerd, queer, neurodivergente, ha un passato da fanwriter accanita che ha inciso molto sulla sua carriera di scrittrice. Ha pubblicato diversi romanzi MM in italiano, sempre con un occhio di riguardo alla rappresentazione della varietà umana che caratterizza il nostro mondo.
I suoi trope preferiti sono: hurt/comfort, angst with happy ending, found family. Non resiste alla tentazione di infondere un pizzico di ironia in tutte le sue storie, e non importa quanto strazio infligga ai suoi poveri personaggi: ha un cuore di panna e non sa vivere senza un grande lieto fine dopo tanto patire. Almeno nei romanzi ci meritiamo l’arcobaleno alla fine della tempesta.

Born in 1985 among forests, rivers and peat bogs, Ester Manzini (she/they) attempted to pursue classical studies in high school. Questionable results led her to indulge her great passion for all things living. She got her master degree in Biology in 2010, and in 2014 she earned a PhD in Ecology. Then life took a path full of bizarre detours: after an experience among seals and whales on a desert island in Mexico, she worked as a science journalist, copywriter, and -- as she continues to do with enthusiasm -- as a translator and video game writer. She succumbed to her uncanny obsession with mushrooms and pursued her dream of becoming a mycologist. Because hey, shrooms are cool.
She lives on the edge of the woods with adorable humans, cats at various levels of demonic possession, and dogs too cute for their own good.
Nerdy, queer, neurodivergent, her background as an avid fanwriter greatly influenced her writing career. She published several MM novels in Italian, always with an eye toward depicting the human variety that characterizes our world.
Her favorite tropes are: hurt/comfort, angst with happy ending, found family. She can’t resist the temptation to infuse a dash of irony into all her stories, and no matter how much heartbreak she inflicts on her poor characters, she’s a softie and can’t live without a nice happy ending after so much suffering. At least in novels, we deserve the rainbow at the end of the storm.
